“For a long time, I lived in the suburbs. My first memory is a memory of the suburbs. At the edge of my memory, a suburban train passes by, like in a movie.”

Deux ou trois choses : variations photographiques sur la région parisienne
A conversation with Hannah Darabi & Benoît Grimbert (french)

“A four-hand work by Iranian and French photographers Hannah Darabi and Benoît Grimbert, Deux ou trois choses echoes the title of a film by Jean-Luc Godard, shot in a 1960s public housing. Combining their respective affinities for urbanity and the photography book, the two photographers followed six students from the Île-de-France region on their daily commutes, all over the region, to compose a set that includes a book, one hundred and ninety-two photographs and a silkscreen print. These visits, driven by habit and the specific route to university centers, the eventual workplace or leisure activities, take place at the pace of walking or public transport, as they cross urban landscapes. The photographs document outings, urban peregrinations and short breaks. Girls or boys, bags on their backs, slung over their shoulders or in their hands, these are the young surveyors of the modern city”.
